Adventure
Laurel & Justin
This surprise proposal in Banff, Alberta was one of the sweetest things we had the pleasure of being part of. Justin had contacted us at the beginning of August to plan a surprise proposal for Laurel, wanting the towering mountains we’re so lucky to have so close to us, to be part of their backdrop. We immediately went to planning, and the three of us opted for a more intimate setting – steering clear of Lake Louise or Moraine Lake. We decided to instead visit Lake Minnewanka – equally as beautiful, with half the amount of people!
We had been monitoring the weather, it looked iffy – calling for a potential downpour, so we packed our clear umbrella, and hoped the skies would stay clear for just enough time to get in the proposal and some snaps of the newly engaged couple.
We pulled up and parked a little down the hill from where Justin and Laurel were getting out of their vehicle. We ushered Justin forwards, the plan being he and Laurel would walk, and we would follow “closely” behind, until he found the perfect spot. We had meandered away from a small crowd on one edge of the lake and we were waiting for Justin’s cue. It happened! He pretended to pick a rock out of the water, and when he turned around, he was on one knee, with a ring box in his hand. Laurel was absolutely shocked, the look on her face was priceless! She obviously said yes, and they stood up to embrace, only for Justin to turn and point to us and say “now smile for the camera!”.
We congratulated the newly engaged couple, and took some adorable photos. They weren’t dressed in anything fancy, but they smiled, hugged, kissed, laughed, and admired Laurel’s new bling. We were able to get all of our photos in, and we only started to get sprinkled on as we were heading back to the cars!
It was such a beautiful morning spent out in the mountains, and we can’t wait for their upcoming nuptials in June! Congratulations, Laurel and Justin!
